BC - Wed, 12/2/09

NOTE: I am slowly, but surely catching up. I've been sick AND preoccupied (in a GOOD way). But I WILL keep posting, so keep checking back.

Jake ALWAYS runs away when the going gets tough. It's what he DOES. Same shit, different year. What's he going to do now, go off and join Jamie in the African jungle? Go to Iraq? Oh wait, been there done that. Maybe he'll just go to Los Angeles.

Joe's hair is getting pretty shaggy in the back. It's been fun to see his changes in hairstyles over the years.

Even more startling than the clean crispness of the jail uniforms are the blindingly white underwear they are wearing underneath. You know THOSE whites are fresh out of the package! They reminded me of Mateo's teeth.

The hospital wants to keep Trevor overnight, just in case. For an ear infection. That's overkill. Or did David just SAY that in order to keep Amanda from Jake? Keep in mind I'm still almost a week behind in watching.

That was a very tender and touching scene at the casino with Opal, Zach and Myrtle's photo. Opal was very gentle with Zach.

I don't normally watch montages, but I REALLY liked the one at the end of the show with Jake leaving, Liza leaving, David feeling left out, JAR worrying and trying to savor what moments he can, etc. The music was very good, too.

I just realized that Annie's hair seems considerably darker. How is she getting her hair dyed in Oakhaven?

Why isn't there a big red spot (and possibly whitish WELTS) on Reese's face after her mother whalloped her SOOO hard across the face that it was practically a PUNCH?

I know Tad is REALLY hurt and very angry, but he should shut his trap when it comes to slamming Krystal where Kathy could overhear. He sent her upstairs to play so he could talk to Krystal. Kathy is NOT an idiot. If I were her, I'd be listening to them as hard as my little ears COULD listen. Oh look, there she is NOW, sitting on the stairs! And she stomped up them when Krystal finally left, but Tad didn't even notice the commotion.

Is anyone going to tell Alice Hart that Kendall is awake? Has anyone mentioned to her that Kendall was even in a coma, let alone that she had a heart transplant? For new watchers, Alice Hart is Kendall's VERY sweet and loving adoptive mother who raised her FROM BIRTH. She lives in Florida.

I'm SO glad that Reese and Zach did NOT have sex in the wake of her mother's slap! That doesn't mean they won't still do it, but it would have been easy (and predictable) for them to have sex and, because they are busy getting busy, have Zach not answer his phone when Bianca called to tell them that Kendall was awake. Zach said everyone has impulses, but it doesn't mean they have to ACT on them. What a REFRESHING idea for a soap! The characters aren't going to act like normal people most of the time, because then there wouldn't be any dramatic stories, but it's nice to see them behave once in a while and maybe set an example to people that actually makes sense while at the same time acknowledging that people DO have impulses.

OT: I told someone (who smokes) recently that I quit smoking when I was 18 and am, in fact, allergic to cigarette smoke and can't STAND it, but that, every once in a while, I have a dream where I not only smoke, but I LIKE it! He looked crestfallen and said that didn't bode well for him quitting eventually. I reminded him, though, that we all dream about doing things that we would NEVER do in real life :-) For instance, in my DREAMS, I often glide or sometimes just levitate merely by concentrating really hard. I run a lot in my dreams, too, and the gliding in between touching down can be quite extended. I also race along on something akin to a combination magic carpet/bobsled -- it doesn't leave the ground, but it goes really FAST and is quite maneuverable just by my pulling on one side or the other :-)

Is it REALLY necessary right NOW to tell Kendall that Zach was the donor father to create Gabrielle? It's not enough of a shock to Kendall to find out that a) she's in the hospital and doesn't know how she got there, b) she's been in a coma for three months, c) she had a heart transplant, and d) the heart donor was her own brother? And she doesn't even know about MYRTLE (or Babe) yet!

Erica's Line of the CENTURY:
"Oh come on, let me have my fun -- I mean, how often do I get to plan a wedding?" BWAHAHAHAHAHHAAA!

So Randi never did even bother to call in to work, even after being busted by Angie? She's lucky Erica didn't fire her ass on the spot, not for the porn thing, but for not even bothering to call in to work to let them know she was still alive. If she knew enough to know exactly when Erica was going to do a press conference about HER being announced as the new face of Fusion, you'd think she'd be in contact with them at the time.

David had just told Joe over the phone that it wasn't blackmail and Joe had just proved what an honorable man and doctor he was, blah, blah, blah ... David then snorts a chuckle and says "Back at ya, Joe." Then he hangs up. Okay, I think we ALL know what the last two words were that Joe said to David, and they weren't "Merry Christmas"!

Krystal MUST be drugged to believe that crock of shit David just handed her (although it doesn't seem like she's actually had any of the milk yet). Joe is her FATHER-IN-LAW who has been Chief of Staff for a couple of generations! She just calmly accepts what David shovels out about Joe and congratulates him? GMAFB!

It was wonderful to see all the old clips with Myrtle! That was one fast funeral, though! Or was it a funeral? Was it more of an impromptu memorial? I know PV is used to doing things on the spur of the moment, but she only died yesterday as far as the show was concerned. I hope they are planning ot have a more formal (and better attended) funeral for her, even if they don't let us see it.

I would have liked to see a montage of every person Myrtle has ever offered a cup of tea to in her living room over the years. It would have to be fast since there were so many people, but it would be RICH in memories! I'm curious -- do they have to pay former actors if they show images of them?

Could Kendall's sudden major twitch have anything to do with Myrtle dying? Myrtle was just mentioned, and Zach said he invited her over for Christmas, so obviously they are about to discover that she has died.

Where is Brot getting his spending money? I heard Jake mention the name of someone Brot has been impersonating in order to get medical benefits -- is he taking someone else's disability benefits, too?

Speaking of money, how could Taylor rent a nice condo like that while taking money from Brot to help finance it? Wouldn't a small apt on the ground floor somewhere be much more practical and less imposing on him? That doesn't sit well with me -- it's not Taylor's style to do that. And Brot's talking about renting the condo across the walkway. Again, WHERE is he getting the money for that? You KNOW his disability benefits aren't going to be enough to cover renting 1.5 condos.

How is it that Aidan, Mr. Secret Agent, is able to talk openly on his cellphone in the corridor at the mental hospital if he's there incognito as a PATIENT? Since when do the patients have their own cellphones while locked up? At least a couple of staff members just walked on by, ignoring him. My impression was that the only person who knew his true identity was the guy he bribed. And why hasn't anyone noticed that Aidan is spending almost all his time hanging around Annie's room? That's just creepy.

I'm glad they mentioned show history with Bianca's first love, Sara. FYI for those of you who might not have watched the show at the time, the reason Bianca was in rehab was that she was anorexic. I was surprised she mentioned Sara, though. Which makes me think Sara is going to make an appearance. Which makes me wonder if Sara has actually already made an appearance -- maybe Annie's new doctor at Oakhaven is actually SARA. That's not a spoiler, just a guess/prediction on my part.

I just found out that Eileen Herlie (Myrtle Fargate) died on 10/8 at the age of 90. She was a great actress and will be sorely missed. I, too, have fond memories of her interactions with Langley, among others, and I'll NEVER forget her telling Rae about the tryst at the top of a ferris wheel :-) Myrtle was always so very colorful! They had BETTER give her a good send-off! I suspect Myrtle will be counted as one of the victims in the coming catastrophe. There were rumors that it might be the case, ANYWAY (maybe they knew this was imminent), and the scenes are probably already shot, but even if it was not the case before, I would not be at all surprised to hear they add that into the storyline after the fact. RIP, Ms. Herlie.

Wednesday was too boring to Boogie.

Why do Babe and JAR have to leave THE VERY DAY that they make a decision? How about, at minimum, finding a house first? I guess their just going to drag Little Adam off to a hotel until they figure that out. She gives no thought at all to whether or not Fusion might need her in this crisis for which she was partially responsible. They aren't sorry to see the doorknob hit her in the but, but still ...

There's a custody hearing in an HOUR? Why doesn't Annie have a lawyer for something so important?

Why do ANY of the Chandlers find it so incredulous that someone might be setting Annie up to look crazy and lose custody of her daughter? The Chandlers are MASTERS at EXACTLY that sort of thing.

Will there be ANY warning when the "bad thing comin'" descends upon the town? I want to hear Amanda on the phone telling someone: "I've gotta go, we've got COWS!"

I can see where the FDA might shut down the production aspect of Fusion, but how can they shut down the entire business and just have everyone go home? TOTALLY bogus! It's not like the IRS or some judge padlocked the business, after all (although that might be NEXT).

BC - Wed, 9/3/08

Krystal is certainly right to be concerned about Kathy's aggressive and potentially violent tendencies, but WTF was Krystal doing climbing an old ladder with Jenny on the floor right next to it? Shame on KRYSTAL!

With everything they have at stake for the "launch" of Bella, why are all the principal members LATE? Every single one of them!

OMG, they're having the party at CONFUSION instead of Fusion? Well, that's a MAJOR step up from their tacky office space -- at least Confusion is MEANT for partying.

Why IS Ryan at the party? His wife just left him because of his love for Greenlee; Greenlee's husband decked him because of his love for Greenlee, Greenlee has no use for him at the party, and there's nothing but tension in the air. It's not like he's in a partying mood. I understand he's escorting Erica, but she doesn't NEED an escort. He flat-out shouldn't BE there.

I LOVED it that Carmen referred to Myrtle as "Myrtle Ferris Wheel", although I have to wonder WHY she did that. When she and Randi were girls Myrtle must have told them something about her carny experiences and ferris wheels or maybe she told them that was her last name as a private joke to herself. For those of you who don't know the history, Myrtle lost her virginity (at the age of 15, I think) at the top of a ferris wheel, which is when she conceived her daughter Rae, whom she gave birth to at the Fanny Battle Home For Unwed Mothers. Rae, played by Linda Dano, was a crossover character on all three soaps for a while -- she was what a Seinfeld episode called a "close-talker" -- she was CONSTANTLY invading everyone's personal space. Anyway, Myrtle's true love then died in a fall from the trapeze (without a net) before Myrtle could even tell him he was going to be a father. It was a heart-renching story of star-crossed young lovers and death; really, we were supposed to be in tears at the tragedy and poignancy of it ... except that we were all laughing our ASSES off when she told it to Rae back in 2000 because she was so melodramatic and it was SOOOO cliched! Maybe you had to be there :-) For some inexplicable reason I can barely find a mention of it via Google, which is strange because I KNOW we talked about it in rec.arts.tv.soaps.abc (aka RATSA).
